Can Twitter Make Us Smarter?
Our intern, Amanda, thinks maybe it can. Check out her story on yesterday's Tewstival:
I’m all for a good time that supports a good cause. And it looks like I’m not the only one who likes to have fun and feel good about it. Last night 6,740 people attended Twestival Global 2010 raising more than $310,000 for education. In the second annual event, Concern Worldwide received the charitable attention and funds from a successful Twestival.
The impact of the night will help aid the 72 million children worldwide missing out on going to school… and it all started with a tweet! The results may not make a huge difference in the need for universal education standards, but at least it is a start. Check out how the money will be used to provide education to kids in need.
Social media presents an exciting world online, but what really excites me is the idea of using these Web sites to make a difference offline. Globalization in this instance provides individuals a way to band together to accomplish something bigger. I can’t wait to see events like Twestival catch on and keep growing.
Tell us if you took part last night. Looks like New York City had quite the turn-out.
