World Cup - The Advanced Technologies and Psychic Phenomenon
Earlier today we re-tweeted an interesting find from our friends at Cisco about how the World Cup has changed the way fans are choosing to watch their matches. The post points out that out-of-home viewing and usage of non-TV platforms added an amazing 47 percent to ESPN’s daily World Cup TV average audience.
At Oddcast, we're really excited by the major uptake in mobile internet and the future of this medium but what really tickles our funny bone today is how the sports world has also gone crazy over a 8-limbed oracle - Paul the Octopus. Paul's reknown has reached epic proportions after he has predicted with a 100% accuracy this year's results by choosing his supper - more specifically by deciding which of the two boxes with mussels inside. Each box was covered with the flag of the competing teams and the hype over this psychic mollusk even caused television networks in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands to interrupt their programming to broadcast their octopus overlord's decisions live on Friday.
Social Media loved Paul too—he was a trending topic on Twitter for almost all of his psychic reign. Did you tweet about him?
Here's a clip of Paul's prediction process for the Spain/Holland Final.
